You have a sense of how you’d like your home to look, how you’d like it to feel. You’re attracted to certain color palettes, certain styles of furniture seem to naturally reflect your style. Cue the designer, the person who will help you create the environment you long for, perfectly proportioned and pulled together with elements of warm and welcoming, sophisticated and artful, whimsical and creative.
Seeing a room take shape through the eyes of a designer is really a wonderful process. The “partners” of Partners by Design — Erin Rademann and Dan Buechel — are as different as traditional and contemporary. Together they’ve created remarkable rooms with timeless appeal that warm the souls of their clients.
Perhaps these partners will be perfect for you.
Symmetry is overrated, at least that was one theme we saw at the Spring International Furniture Market in North Carolina. There were chairs that you’d pair but did not match. Unusual sofa shapes with higher-than-high backs that can best be described as proportionately dramatic. And the contrast of soft curves with extremely straight lines. Matchy-matchy has met its match.
Purple is “in” in fashion and it’s “in” in furniture design too. Think raisin purple. Other color inspirations include chocolate brown, yellow and red. On the flip side, we saw some really sophisticated monochromatic room designs, with tone-on-tone and different shades of one color, like red or blue, and it worked! A quick note on fabrics - consider weaving in something natural, like silk, burlap or cotton.
Do you have a signature piece of jewelry that you wear and love and don’t stack with anything else so it really stands out? Time to apply that same rule of “editing” to your home. Pick a signature item and pack away the surrounding small accessories. That way you’ll really enjoy its beauty. May we recommend making it a piece of artwork? We’re seeing mirrors with incredibly unique frames-upon-frames that are art in their own way. And a mirror can really open up a dark corner and make it part of the room.
